Quick answer

With three to five business days, most urgent business finance is realistic if you start on day one. Up to $5m is possible within 24–48 hours against property, and unsecured options for trading businesses move as fast as your bank statements. Enquire early in the week, settle the amount and security by day two, and leave the last day as a buffer, not the plan.

Key points

  • A working week is enough for most pathways — if day one isn't wasted.
  • Lock the amount and the security by day two; changes after that cost days.
  • Treat Friday as the buffer. Aim to settle by Thursday.
  • Public holidays shrink the week — count business days, not calendar days.
Secured
Up to $5m possible in 24–48 hours
Unsecured
Typically $5k–$500k
Aim to settle
One day before the deadline
Main risk
Changing the amount mid-week

Is a week enough time?

For most urgent business finance, a working week is a comfortable window — as long as it’s a full working week and the first day isn’t lost. Our lending facts set the outer marks: up to $5m is possible within 24–48 hours against property, $20k to $250k is possible same day, and same-day funding is possible for smaller unsecured amounts. So why do some businesses still run out of week?

Almost always, it’s not the lender’s timeline. It’s the time between “I should look into this” and a complete file. A week becomes three days when Monday goes on finding statements and Tuesday on deciding how much to ask for.

How should the week run?

Think of the week in three parts: decide, prove, settle.

Decide (day one). Work out the exact amount — including anything else due in the same fortnight — and whether property is involved. Then enquire. If you’re unsure of the amount, our page on how much to borrow helps you land on a number that won’t need changing.

Prove (days two and three). Send what’s asked for straight away: bank statements, ID, the bill, BAS or financials if requested, and property details. If a valuation is needed, make sure someone can give access quickly. The funding readiness checklist shows what each document does.

Settle (day four, with day five as buffer). Review and sign documents quickly, confirm the creditor’s bank details by phone, and arrange payment. Aim to have funds land a day before the deadline. That spare day absorbs the surprises — a question from the lender, a delayed signature, a bank transfer that takes longer than expected.

Which pathway suits a week?

SituationBest fit this week
Property with clear equity, any amount to $5mProperty-secured — time to do it without stress
Property with tight or uncertain equityProperty-secured, but start day one; valuation decides it
Trading business, no property, moderate amountUnsecured cash-flow funding sized on turnover
Short trading history, no propertyTalk early — options are narrower and need more time

If you’d like a quick read on your own situation, the triage checker turns your answers into a pathway and a prepare-now list. When you’re ready, start the enquiry — ideally on day one.

Where do weeks usually get lost?

  • The number moves. Enquiring for $60k, then adding a BAS on Wednesday, restarts parts of the assessment. Put everything due in the next few weeks into the first number.
  • The security surprises. A property in a family trust, a second mortgage nobody mentioned, or co-owners who aren’t available to sign. Mention anything unusual on day one.
  • Replies take a day each. A question asked Tuesday afternoon and answered Wednesday afternoon costs a full day. Keep your phone on and reply within the hour.
  • The creditor wasn’t told. If the supplier or landlord knows funding is being arranged, a small slip is manageable. If they hear nothing, it isn’t.

Does a public holiday change the plan?

Yes. Settlements and bank payments run on business days. In December 2026, for example, Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December and Boxing Day on Saturday 26 December, with an additional public holiday on Monday 28 December in the ACT, NSW, NT, Queensland, Victoria and WA. A deadline that week has fewer working days than it looks. Our December timeline covers the holiday period in more detail.

An illustrative example

Illustrative only. On a Monday, a printing business learns that a $120,000 press lease payout is due Friday to keep the machine when the lease ends. The directors own their factory unit with an existing bank mortgage. By Monday afternoon the enquiry is in with rates notice, mortgage statement and bank statements. On Tuesday a second mortgage is confirmed as the pathway and a valuation is booked. Approval comes Wednesday, documents are signed Thursday morning and the payout is made Thursday afternoon — with Friday untouched.

What if the week is already half gone?

If it’s Wednesday and the deadline is Friday, you’re on the two-day rung of the ladder rather than the five-day one. The plan compresses:

  • Enquire immediately, with documents gathered while you wait for the call.
  • Lead with property if you have it. Up to $5m is possible within 24–48 hours against property; that’s the pathway most likely to fit two business days.
  • Ask the creditor now for Monday as a fallback, before you know whether you need it. It’s much easier to ask early and not use the extra days than to ask on Friday afternoon.
  • Keep the amount fixed. Mid-week changes cost more when there’s less week left.

Our page on business finance needed today covers the tightest version of this situation.

Should you tell staff or suppliers you’re arranging finance?

Tell the people who need to know, briefly and confidently. A supplier waiting on payment should hear that funding is being arranged and when it’s expected. Staff don’t usually need the detail unless their pay is affected — in which case early honesty is essential. Keeping key people informed stops rumours and preserves the goodwill you may need if the timeline slips by a day.

Make this week count — see if you qualify

A week is plenty of time if it starts today. Tell us what’s due, the date and what you have in place. There’s no credit check when you first enquire, your enquiry isn’t hawked around to other lenders, and a real person takes ownership of it and calls. Please fill the form in accurately — the amount, the deadline and any property — so the week goes on settling the funds, not correcting the details.

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Day 1

Enquire with the exact amount, deadline and any property. Gather statements, ID and the bill the same day.

  2. 2

    Day 2

Confirm the pathway and amount with a specialist. Send everything requested. For property, arrange access for any valuation.

  3. 3

    Day 3

Assessment and approval. Answer questions the same hour they're asked.

  4. 4

    Day 4

Sign documents promptly and confirm creditor payment details by phone. Aim to settle.

  5. 5

    Day 5

Buffer day. If settled, pay the creditor and get written confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a business loan within a week?

For many businesses, yes. Property-secured loans of up to $5m are possible within 24–48 hours when security and documents line up, and unsecured options for trading businesses can move quickly once bank statements are in. Assessment still applies.

What slows funding down during the week?

Changing the amount, late documents, unclear property ownership or existing mortgage details, and slow replies to questions. Each one can cost a day.

Is it worth applying with several lenders to be safe?

Usually not. Several applications mean several sets of questions and can mean multiple credit enquiries. One well-matched application, completed quickly, tends to finish sooner.

What if a public holiday falls in the week?

Count it out. Settlements and bank payments run on business days, so a Monday holiday turns a five-day week into four. Start a day earlier if you can.
