Quick answer
Same-day business finance is possible, but only for certain cases: property-secured loans of $20,000 to $250,000, and smaller unsecured amounts for trading businesses with bank statements ready. It depends on enquiring early, having documents to hand and giving accurate details. For anything bigger or less ready, ask the creditor for a day or two while funding is arranged.
Key points
- Same day is possible for $20k–$250k secured against property, and for smaller unsecured amounts.
- The real deadline is the payment cut-off, not close of business.
- Enquire in the morning with documents ready — every hour of delay narrows the options.
- If today isn't realistic, ring the creditor now and agree a firm new date.
- Secured same day
- $20k–$250k possible
- Unsecured same day
- Possible for smaller amounts
- Up to $5m
- Possible within 24–48 hours
- Biggest factor
- Documents ready at enquiry
What’s actually possible before close of business?
Same-day finance isn’t a myth, but it isn’t universal either. On our lending facts, these are the realistic same-day cases:
| Situation | Same day? |
|---|---|
| Property-secured, $20k–$250k, clear equity, documents ready | Possible |
| Unsecured, smaller amount, trading business, statements ready | Possible |
| Property-secured above $250k | Up to $5m possible within 24–48 hours |
| No property, larger amount or short trading history | Usually needs more time |
| Documents not ready or the amount unclear | Rarely — the file can’t move |
The pattern is simple. Same-day happens when the lender can see the security or the trading record straight away and nothing is missing. Every gap — a statement not downloaded, a property with an unclear existing mortgage, a number that changes mid-conversation — pushes the result into tomorrow.
What’s your real cut-off?
“Today” usually means earlier than you think. Work backwards from the moment the creditor needs to see the money:
- When does the creditor check? A supplier might reconcile at 4pm. Payroll files often need to go the day before pay day.
- How long does your payment take? Same-bank transfers can be quick; others may take longer depending on the banks and the payment method.
- When does funding need to land in your account to make that payment?
That last time is your deadline. If it’s 2pm, a morning enquiry is essential. If the creditor can be paid directly from the loan, tell us — it can remove a step.
What should you do in the next hour?
If money is needed today, the order matters:
- Enquire now with the exact amount, the deadline time and whether there’s property. The enquiry takes about 60 seconds.
- Download six months of business bank statements as PDFs, or have your online banking login ready.
- Photograph ID for each director or owner.
- Find the bill — invoice, notice, contract or pay run summary.
- If you own property, have the address, a recent rates notice and your current mortgage statement ready.
- Call the creditor to confirm the amount and the latest time they’ll accept payment today.
If you want a second opinion on the pathway before enquiring, the triage checker takes two minutes. But if the deadline is today, don’t let the tool delay the enquiry — do the enquiry first.
When is today simply not realistic?
Be honest about it early. Today is unlikely if the amount is large and there’s no property, if the business has been trading only a short time, if there are unresolved issues with existing security, or if key documents can’t be found until tomorrow.
In those cases, the best move is to buy a short, specific extension. Call the creditor, say that funding is being arranged, and give a firm date — “Thursday by midday” beats “later this week”. business.gov.au encourages speaking to creditors early and asking about hardship arrangements. Then keep the funding moving so the new date holds. Our page on business funding this week covers the next rung of the ladder.
An illustrative example
Illustrative only. At 8:40am on a Tuesday, a freight business learns its fuel card account will be suspended at 3pm unless $36,000 is paid. The director owns a commercial unit with no mortgage. By 9:15 the enquiry is in, with the fuel card statement, bank statements and the rates notice attached on request. A caveat-based property-secured loan is approved late morning, documents are signed early afternoon and the fuel provider is paid directly before the cut-off. Had the enquiry gone in at 2pm, the realistic plan would have been a one-day extension.
What should you not do when money is needed today?
Pressure pushes people into moves that make the day worse. Avoid these:
- Applying everywhere at once. Several half-finished applications create several sets of questions and can mean several credit enquiries. One complete enquiry moves faster.
- Guessing the amount. A number that changes at 1pm resets the conversation. Take ten minutes to check it.
- Hiding the awkward bits. An ATO debt, a default or a second mortgage will come out in the assessment. Disclosed at the start, they’re part of the plan; discovered at 2pm, they end today’s chances.
- Paying anyone who asks for an upfront fee to “guarantee” same-day approval. Legitimate lenders don’t guarantee approval before assessing you.
- Going quiet on the creditor. Even if funding is on track, a short call to say so protects the relationship if anything slips.
Does the day of the week matter?
Yes. A deadline on a Monday effectively has to be met on the previous Friday, because settlements and bank payments run on business days. Friday deadlines leave no room for a slip into the weekend, and a public holiday anywhere in the week removes a working day from the plan. If your “today” is actually a Friday afternoon or the day before a public holiday, treat it as more urgent than it looks and enquire first thing.
Need it today? Start now
When money is needed today, minutes matter more than wording. Tell us the amount, the cut-off time and whether there’s property, and we’ll tell you straight whether today is realistic. Asking doesn’t involve a credit check, we don’t forward your enquiry to a list of other lenders, and a real person picks it up and calls you. Please be precise on the form — the closer the details are to reality, the better the chance of making today’s deadline.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really get business finance today?
It's possible in the right circumstances. Property-secured loans of $20k to $250k are possible same day, and same-day funding is possible for smaller unsecured amounts. Neither is guaranteed — assessment still applies, and timing depends on how quickly documents and security line up.
What time do I need to enquire for same-day funding?
As early as possible. A morning enquiry leaves time for a call, documents, approval and settlement before bank cut-offs. An enquiry at 3pm usually means planning for the next business day.
What documents do I need for same-day finance?
Recent business bank statements (or online banking access), ID for each director, ABN or ACN details, the bill or invoice itself and, for secured loans, property details such as a rates notice and mortgage statement.
What if same day isn't possible?
Call the creditor now, explain that funding is being arranged and agree a firm date. Up to $5m is possible within 24–48 hours against property, so a short extension is often all that's needed.
Is same-day finance available on weekends?
Settlements and bank transfers run on business days, so plan around the next business day. Enquiring over the weekend still helps — it means the file is ready to move first thing.
